Todd
Terry has been engulfed in dance music since he
first started listening to European dance music
records while growing up in Brooklyn. Already
devoted to turntables, he heard something different
in those tracks, and he “went for the difference.
I never got a break in New York, but England happened
right away, so I catered to them.” In any
event, the Todd Terry sound was born. Todd's fusion
of the dancey house formula with the attitude
of hip-hop sampling has forever changed house
music and influenced many that came afer him.
From defining hip house by producing the Jungle
Brothers hit "I'll House You" to bridging
the Atlantic divide in remixing Everything but
the Girl and selling over 3 million copies - Todd
is not only a production powerhouse but also a
phenomenal DJ. His gigs at the Ministry of Sound
in the early 90's lead the chatty British press
to call him a god. Welcome to the church of house
music presided over by Todd The God. Are you a
believer?

| Born
and raised in the western suburbs, Carter was
into music from a young age, but during his teens
Chicago's house scene sucked him in for good.
Before long Carter became a strong presence in
the city's underground dance scene. "When
I got my driver's license at 16 my sneak ability
was validated," he laughs. "I was a
fierce bedroom jock for a long time. After you
mix for the love of it for six or seven years,
you get it pretty tight and you can take it on
the road." He got by working at dance-music
specialty stores like Gramaphone and gigging at
parties. Later he landed regular DJ stints at
Shelter, Foxy's, and Smart Bar. Though he doesn't
spin much locally anymore, when he does he attracts
large crowds. His sets are rooted in house, but
he freely travels outside club tastes, seamlessly
incorporating old-school disco, soul, jazz, and
whatever else catches his fancy. Most of the time
he works in Europe, where he's become a minor
celebrity among dance-music aficionados. Carter
says that due to his growing notoriety his production
talents have been requested by pop-oriented acts.
But he prefers to remain underground. Although
enthused about his own Blue Cucaracha label and
a new UK-based imprint he runs called Classic,
he's reluctant to offer much explanation of either
label's MO--other than each releases records when
the mood strikes him. "I like to keep myself
pretty invisible. You may think I'm somewhere,
but I've already left." |

Where
to begin, telling a story with so much to tell.
This one really starts in 1986 with a fifteen
year old Felix Stallings Jr. in a studio with
DJ Pierre finishing off Pierre's Phantasy Club's
classic track "Phantasy Girl". A whole
lot has happened since then. As Aphrohead, Sharkimax,
Wonderboy, Thee Maddkatt Courtship, and 2 Black
Ninja's (with celebrated underground producer
K-Alexi), he has ran the gamut from pioneering
the "Wild Pitch" sound with Roy Davis
Jr. and DJ Pierre to the numerous techno classics
on the labels of the world and 80's pop drenched
vocal material that he is known all over the globe
for.
Tracks on labels like Touche, Freetown, Guerilla,
Bush, Global Cuts, Reload, Sex Trax, Emotive,
Djax, Manifesto, Deep Distraction, ffrr/London,
Soma, Nervous, Strictly Rhythm, Power Music, and
his own imprints Thee Black Label, Radikal Fear,
and, of course Clashbackk have shaped a sound
that is ALL Felix's.
It was the 2001 release of Felix's, "Kittenz
and Thee Glitz" that really was a breakthrough
for Da Housecat and some would say the seminal
moment for the genre known as Electro. Collaborating
with many artists, Miss Kittin and Junior Sanchez
to name a few, the album has appeared on numerous
critic's top ten lists, (including Spin Magazine.
Felix has become the leader in this movement,
which has made for great demand of Felix's production
work (Remixes for Pet Shop Boys, Giorgio Moroder,
Kylie Minogue, X-Press 2, Diana Ross, to name
a few), as well as a major draw as a Club DJ.
With six full length albums and three mix CD's
under his belt, Felix continues to dazzle and
amaze all who come in contact with his music.

up in the House Music explosion of the early eighties,
